Becky Hammon Dishes Up Southern Style Chicken at McDonald’s
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Silver Stars guard Becky Hammon will trade in her uniform for an apron Thursday as she joins Ronald McDonald at the McDonald’s restaurant on 4720 Broadway from 5 to 6 p.m. to dish up the chain’s new Southern Style Chicken.
Hammon, the 2007 San Antonio Express-News Sportswoman of the Year, is one of the most popular players in the WNBA. The fan favorite spent nine seasons in New York before joining the Silver Stars last season. She finished second in the 2007 MVP vote and became just the second player in league history voted as a starter for both the East and West All-Star teams during her career. At the 2007 WNBA All-Star game, Hammon took home the Dribble, Dish and Swish Skills Challenge title, then in February teamed with NBA All-Star Tim Duncan and legend David Robinson to take home the Haier Shooting Stars trophy. Hammon also holds the Guinness World Record for Most Free Throws Made in a Minute (women’s category) after swishing 38 of 42 attempts in the allotted 60 seconds.
Hammon will sign autographs and take photos with customers, as well as serve up a few samples of the Southern Style Chicken sandwich.
The WNBA and McDonald’s have come together in a new marketing partnership that will make McDonald’s the presenting partner of “WNBA Tip-Off 2008 presented by McDonald’s.” As part of the partnerships, the McDonald’s logo will appear on the front of all player jerseys during WNBA Tip-Off games, marking the first time a logo other than the uniform manufacturer will appear on the WNBA uniform during the regular season. WNBA Tip-Off 2008 games include each WNBA team’s home opener as well as nationally televised games on ABC (May 17 and 24) and ESPN2 (May 20).
During Thursday’s launch of McDonald’s new Southern Style Chicken Biscuit and Sandwich, 50 WNBA players will appear at McDonald’s in 10 WNBA markets nationwide, including five in San Antonio. A complete list of San Antonio players and McDonald’s locations follows:
