SAN ANTONIO, Feb. 9 -- The San Antonio Silver Stars announced today that they have re-signed Silver Stars forward Adrienne Goodson to a one-year contract. Per team policy terms of the deal have not been released.
“From the very beginning of the signing period we knew that signing Adrienne would be one of the keys to building a championship team,” Silver COO Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil said. “Her decision to stay in San Antonio this off-season to workout with Coach Brown shows her dedication and sacrifice to the Silver Stars. Adrienne is a joy to work with I have always been impressed with the way she makes herself available to the community through various outreach programs and appearances. I look forward to seeing her in a Silver Stars uniform in the upcoming season. She has put a lot of hard work in and I know it will pay off.”
Goodson, a five-year WNBA veteran, has spent her entire career with the Silver Stars/Utah Starzz organization. In her first year in San Antonio she started 32 games, averaging 11.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 29.4 minutes per game. A 2002 WNBA All-Star, Goodson has her name spread throughout the Silver Stars/Starzz all-time Top 10 lists. She ranks first in field goals made and ranks within the top 10 in six other statistical categories. Goodson started in all seven Starzz playoff games in 2001 and 2002, averaging 14.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists. For her career, she has appeared in 153 games averaging 14.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 32.0 minutes per game.
“I’m excited to know that Adrienne will be on our side heading into the 2004 season,” Silver Stars Head Coach Dee Brown said. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with Adrienne this off-season and I know she is committed to winning and helping this team succeed. Adrienne has the heart of a lion and it shows in everything she does. Those are the type of players I want to surround myself with.”
Away from the court Goodson is a key player in the WNBA’s community relations efforts. During her career Goodson has participated in the WNBA’s Read to Achieve and Mind.Body.Spirit. programs. She received the WNBA Off-Season Community Assist Award on June 1, 2003, for efforts in the Salt Lake City area prior to the Silver Stars move to San Antonio. After the 2003 season Goodson was invited by First Lady Laura Bush to be an integral part of the third annual National Book Festival. She will be making an appearance at the 2004 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles to read to young children during the NBA All-Star Jam Session.
“Since day one Spurs Sports & Entertainment has treated me like an All-Star,” Goodson said. “I never had any doubts that I wouldn’t come back to the Silver Stars, but part of the process of being a free agent is testing the waters. I love everything about this organization and all it stands for. They are making all the right moves this off-season to make us a contender for the 2004 WNBA Championship. Bringing in Dee Brown and trading for Shannon Johnson shows me they are committed to winning and that’s a big reason why I came back.”
