CHICAGO(AP) Ann Wauters scored 23 points and the San Antonio Silver Stars ran the WNBA's longest active winning streak to six games with a 75-67 win over the Chicago Sky on Thursday night.
San Antonio (14-6) owns the best record in the league. Chicago (5-12) has lost three straight and eight of last 10.
Wauters scored 17 in the first half for the Silver Stars, who took a 39-29 halftime lead.
San Antonio trailed only once early and took command in the second quarter with a 16-8 surge, anchored by guard Edwige Lawson-Wade, who scored seven points in a reserve role.
The Silver Stars extended the lead to 21 points by the end of the third period as guard Becky Hammon shot 3-for-9 and scored seven points in the frame.
The Sky never got closer than eight points in the final quarter, despite outscoring San Antonio 23-10.
Wauters came within one point of matching her season-high of 24 set last month at Minnesota. Hammon added 12 points, and Lawson-Wade had 11 points for San Antonio.
Jia Perkins paced the Sky with 17 points. Candace Dupree had 13 and Dominique Canty scored 12. |
