Silver Stars Fall to Comets
Box Score | Recap

SAN ANTONIO, July 27, 2007 (AP) -- Tamecka Dixon scored 21 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field, leading the Houston Comets to a 69-63 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars on Friday night.

Tina Thompson had 17 points and eight rebounds as the Comets (8-16) got their second consecutive victory over San Antonio. Houston, which started the season 0-10, has won eight of 14 - starting with a win over Los Angeles on June 20.

Sophia Young had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Ruth Riley and Becky Hammon scored 11 points apiece for San Antonio (15-8), which has lost two of three. Hammon, who totaled 58 points while shooting 61 percent from the field (20-for-33) in the first two games against Houston this season, was only 2-for-16 this time.

The Silver Stars' lead in the Western Conference was cut to one game over Sacramento. San Antonio is on course to make the playoffs for the first time since the team moved here from Utah in 2003.

The Silver Stars shot just 30 percent (21-for-70) and the Comets took advantage of their struggles. Houston took the lead for good on Michelle Snow's 3-pointer 2:24 into first quater.

The Silver Stars came back and cut Houston's 13 point lead to four on two free throws by Hammon with 3:41 left in the fourth, but could not get closer.

Dixon answered with back-to-back buckets, including a 19-foot jumper, to bring the lead up to 10.
