The Silver Stars ended a two-game losing streak with a 79-71 win over the New York Liberty tonight at the AT&T Center.
The Silver Stars went on a 9-3 run early in the first quarter to take an 11-8 lead and they never looked back. Shameka Christon had eight of her 15 points in the opening quarter, but with Erin Buescher putting up eight of her 16 points and Sophia Young and Ruth Riley each adding four points, the Silver Stars had the 21-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Silver Stars shot 63.6 percent in the quarter and held New York to 40 percent shooting.
Liberty rookie, Shay Doron, scored her first WNBA points with a 3-pointer in the second quarter. But veteran Becky Hammon made her presence felt in the second quarter as she scored 10 of her 22 points.
