The Silver Stars stormed to an 82-71 victory over Seattle tonight at the AT&T Center.
The Silver Stars got off to a quick start with two straight baskets by Marie Ferdinand-Harris to start the game. The Silver Stars shot 60% from the field in the opening quarter. Becky Hammon led scorers in the quarter with 10 of her 21 points and Erin Buescher added eight to give the Silver Stars the early 28-16 lead going into the second.
The Storm scored their first second quarter point three and a half minutes into the quarter on a made free throw by Janell Burse. The Silver Stars made a 17-3 run to open up a 14-point lead. Ruth Riley picked up her third personal foul with 2:38 remaining in the half. But with Seattle only shooting 2-12 and the Silver Stars forcing 11 turnovers in the first half, the Silver Stars went into the locker room with a 45-30 advantage.
The Storm pulled within eight in the third quarter, but as the Silver Stars took a 10-0 run to end the quarter, they opened up their biggest lead of 16-points.
Seattle tried to weather the storm in the final quarter by opening up with eight straight points and were able to pull within six 57-51. But the Silver Stars hung on to claim the 82-71 win.
Becky Hammon scored her first 20-point game as a Silver Star. Meanwhile Vickie Johnson had a double-double with 10 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. The Silver Stars posted 26 assists, 25 fast break points, and 40 points in the paint, while holding Seattle to 13 assists, five fast break points, and 26 points in the paint.
