Reaching Out To Make a Difference

The Silver Stars Care...

  • Annually, Spurs Sports & Entertainment and the Spurs Foundation support more than 1,800 different area organizations with in-kind or cash contributions. These in-kind donations (tickets, autographed memorabilia, appearances, etc.) are used to raise thousands of dollars for charitable causes in the San Antonio area.
  • More than 165,000 incentives, which include books, tickets, certificates, scholarships, t-shirts, and player visits are distributed through the Spurs Sports & Entertainment education programs each year to inspire a myriad of student achievements.
  • Since its inception in 1988, the nonprofit Spurs Foundation has donated more than $10 million in cash and in-kind contributions to deserving South Texas children through organizations that provide basic, recreational, and medical needs.
  • The Silver Stars’ educational outreach programs address those youth issues rated most important by local professionals. As part of our READ TO ACHIEVE, Choose Respect, and Be Smart • Be Fit • Be Yourself initiatives, programs focus on student literacy, respectful relationships, positive self image, healthy and fit families, and basic life skills.

The Spurs Foundation

The nonprofit 501(c)(3) Spurs Foundation was established to generate goodwill and financial support for economically, emotionally and/or physically disadvantaged youth in South Texas. The Spurs Foundation’s volunteer board includes fans, community leaders, former Spurs players and representatives from the corporate and civic sectors.

Since 1988, the Spurs Foundation has been handing out assists to physically, emotionally and economically underserved South Texas youth and is proud of its donations of more than $10 million. Funded solely by fundraisers and donations, the Foundation uses its resources to serve youth by encouraging their growth, creativity, development of character and education and providing opportunities to enjoy a greater quality of life.

Annually, proceeds from our fundraisers allow the Foundation to:

  • Donate more than 40,000 Silver Stars, Spurs and Rampage tickets to underserved area youth, families and area charities through school-based student incentive programs
  • Award more than $100,000 in grants to organizations that work with and on behalf of young people
  • Team up with the Tim Duncan Foundation to recognize and reward 3,000 children who demonstrate integrity, respect, dependability, fairness, caring and civic responsibility through Tim Duncan's Character program
  • Ensure that more than 20,000 youth participate in the Spurs/Pizza Hut Drug-Free Youth Basketball League presented by Valero
  • Recognize and reward 3,000 children who make healthy nutrition and physical fitness choices through the new "Get Fit with Bruce and Buddy" program sponsored by Bruce Bowen, H-E-B and the Spurs Foundation
  • Fund $25,000 in scholarships to deserving area youth

Spurs Foundation Grants
Each year, the Spurs Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations seeking funding for programs for disadvantaged youth in South Texas. Grant disbursement of more than $100,000 was awarded in 2005. Four nonprofit organizations are then selected by the Spurs Foundation’s volunteer Board of Directors to become Spurs Foundation’s “Featured Charities.” During the 2005-2006 season, the following youth organizations received year long publicity in addition to their grants: Blood and Tissue Center Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio, SaMMinistries, and San Antonio Food Bank.
