Sandora Irvin recently played water basketball with Special Olympics athletes as part of a WNBA Be Fit - Be Smart - Be Yourself event at Harmony Hills Cabana Club.
The game was 6-on-6, with a Silver Stars player on each team. The two teams will played multiple games. The event was designed to show children how swimming is a great, fun way to exercise.
The Special Olympics athletes recently competed in the State Games and 11 of the local athletes are headed to Shanghai, China, for the 2007 World Games.
Irvin and Ferdinand-Harris also spoke to the children about the importance of healthy eating and regular exercise. Be Fit - Be Smart - Be Yourself is a league-wide initiative to encourage teens and women of all ages to learn more about their bodies and the importance of physical fitness. Programming has been developed to encourage teens and women to get started on being fit through small changes in their daily regimen.
