Silver Stars guard Marie Ferdinand-Harris and forward Sandora Irvin recently mingled and signed autographs for students heading back to the books at the 5th Annual Antioch Community Transformation Network’s (ACTN) Back to School Festival. More than 800 people attended the event at the Antioch Church Campus.
ACTN is a 501c3 non-profit organization established by Antioch Missionary Baptist Church to assist in removing educational, economic, health and social barriers on the east side of San Antonio. ACTN is the developer of the $3.5 million Antioch Sports Complex and Community Center, which has served as the practice home of the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars since 2005.
In partnership with ACTN, the Silver Stars and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa, over 500 youth will be provided with backpacks containing school supplies and offered free immunizations and mini-physicals. Food, games and entertainment also will be provided to students and their families.
