Preview: Shock v Fever on ESPN

The Tulsa Shock (0-4) are looking to improve on their record and as they face the Indiana Fever (2-1) Tuesday, June 14.

The Shock met the Fever in Tulsa’s fifth game of the 2010 season, and won 79-74 at home. The Shock also lost one to Indiana later on in the season. The Fever ended 2010 with a 21-13 record, advancing to the playoffs and losing to the Liberty 2-to-1, in the first round.

The Fever has closed out games against the Chicago Sky and New York Liberty this season. They also have one loss to the Liberty. They came into 2011 with two preseason losses to Minnesota.

In the team’s last game on the road, players shot 56.6 percent from the floor, the third-highest shooting percentage in the franchise’s history. In the same game, the Fever had 18 turnovers, which the Liberty was able to convert into points.

New to the Fever this year are 13-year WNBA veteran Tangela Smith, Jeanette Polhen, who was selected ninth overall in the 2011 WNBA draft, guards Shannon Bobbitt and Erin Phillips and forward Shyra Ely. The Fever roster also includes Tamika Catchings, Jessica Davenport, Katie Douglas, Briann January, Tammy Sutton-Brown and Shavonte Zellous.

The Shock are looking for the right starting lineup to score their first win of the 2011 season. The Shock have not won an away game since July 16, 2010.

Coach Nolan Richardson is working through the loss of Shock guard Amber Holt, who will miss the next four-to-six weeks due to a broken thumb.

After the team’s first three consecutive losses, the Shock averaged only 66 points per game and about 35 percent from the floor. In their last game versus the Connecticut Sun, the Shock improved to 40 percent, paced by Ivory Latta, who tied a career-high with 26 points.

Elizabeth Cambage, Tulsa’s first round draft pick, became the sixth player in WNBA history to have recorded a double-double in the first two games of her career. Kayla Pedersen had the best game of her young career against Connecticut, notching 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists in in over 38 minutes
