Shock Opening Day
Doors to The Palace open at 2:00 p.m. for the 3:00 p.m. tip-off against the Sacramento Monarchs.
However, ShockFest, one of the most unique areas at The Palace opens at 1:30 p.m. in the West parking lot.
ShockFest offers a variety of interactive activities including a rock-climbing wall, a basketball half-court where big games of “knockout” are played, a bungee run and a giant pop-a-shot game. Kids and adults can play together and have a great time before the game.
There are also stations at ShockFest where fans can measure their feet, hands and height against the WNBA Champions. There is a free sign-making station where fans can create posters to support their favorite Shock players, and music is always part of the pre-game festivities at ShockFest.
ShockFest closes 30 minutes before tip-off.
Inside The Palace’s west atrium, fans can take a free photo with the 2003 and 2006 WNBA Championship trophies or have their faces painted to show their true Shock spirit, for Opening Day. And fans can always visit the Comcast Pavilion, located at the north entrance, for Big Boy burgers or Buffalo Wild Wings treats.
Once inside, fans are encouraged to come down by the court and watch the players warm-up before the game.
Arrive at The Palace early and enjoy a late lunch at the Casino Windsor Club, located on concourse level, just above the west (main entrance) or Old No. 7 Club, located on the east side of the building just beneath Captains Quarters. The Casino Windsor Club features brick oven pizza, pasta and wings while the Old No. 7 Club menu includes traditional pub fare. Both restaurants include full service bars.
Additional food options include the Bacardi Bar, Buffalo Wild Wings and Big Boy stands in the new Comcast Pavilion entrance, located at the north end of The palace. Domino's Pizza is located on the east concourse level.
Get to The Palace early and be one of the first 2,500 fans in the building to receive a limited edition WNBA Championship mini-trophy. The trophies are replicas of the trophy the Shock took home for their 2006 WNBA Championship and are presented by AirMaster.
Fans should be in their seats by 3:00 p.m. for Opening Day.
Why?
Opening Day is more special when your team wins the WNBA Championship the year before because WNBA President Donna Orender attends your game and presents your team and coaches with their championship rings. That’s what will be happening May 19th for the Shock.
Also as part of the pre-game festivities, the 2006 Champs will raise a new banner to the rafters at The Palace.
The championship ring and banner ceremonies are often once in a lifetime opportunities and fans should make every effort to support their 2006 WNBA Champions. And be sure to bring your camera.
The Shock tip it off at 3:30 p.m. against the Sacramento Monarchs, the 2005 WNBA Champs and the team that took the Shock to five games in the 2006 WNBA Finals. The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.
After the game, fans should head up to the Captain’s Quarters, located on the east side of The Palace, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and WNBA ambiance of the DISCOVER Card Lounge.
Sign up for a DISCOVER credit card, or show yours at the door, and join the Shock Wave dance team, ZAP and DJ Earle for a post-game party. Food, beverages and music are all part of the fun at the DISCOVER Card Lounge. A Shock player, along with a player from the visiting team, will join the party-goers for autographs and photos.
