Detroit Shock Re-Signs Andrea Stinson
Auburn Hills, MI -Detroit Shock Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has re-signed veteran guard Andrea Stinson. To create room on the roster for Stinson, the Shock waived forward Ayana Walker.
Stinson was included in the trade that brought Phoenix Mercury forward Plenette Pierson to Detroit on July 29, but the Mercury waived Stinson in order to add Maria Stepanova to their roster. Before being traded to Phoenix, Stinson played in 9 of 11 games for Detroit averaging 1.4 points and 1.0 assists on the year.
Walker started 11 of Detroit’s first 12 games in place of the injured Swin Cash, and averaged 4.9 points and 4.0 rebounds during that time. Originally selected by the Shock in the second round (20th overall) of the 2002 WNBA Draft, the 6-1 Walker averaged 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in her three-plus years with Detroit.
