The 2005 Detroit Shock season started with a jolt on Monday at Media Day. The practice facility was full of activity and excitement in anticipation of a new season. There were various stations setup around the facility allowing the media, select staff members, and a few lucky fans the opportunity to become reacquainted with the old teammates and to get to know the new additions.

On one side of the facility, there was a line of tables set out with merchandise to be autographed. There was everything from T-shirts to posters to basketballs; all the players needed were Sharpies. One of the more unique aspects of this station was used for outlining as opposed to autographing. Each of the players was asked for a hand, as well as a foot, while staff members traced them for future use.

On the opposite side of the facility, a row of multimedia stations was arranged. At one station, players posed for headshots and other promotional photos. The next station over had a green-screen background. Each player had a set of different movements and skills such as dribbling and passing she was asked to complete. These videos will

later be used for in-arena elements. The last station in the multimedia row was an interview station in which players were interviewed on camera to find out answers to such meaningful questions as, “What would your super-hero name be?” You’ll have to stay tuned for those answers, though!

The final stations were set up for members of the media to conduct interviews with the players. There was also one table designated for a lucky family who won a contest and was allowed to interview each player.

To top a successful day off, Zap was also present and stirring up trouble as usual.
