In anticipation to see the fellow UCONN women’s basketball alumni, Swin was also excited to give back to her “second home.” “Just to embrace the fans in Connecticut, they’ve been loyal ever since the first day I stepped on campus, and it would just be great to give back to them,” said Cash. While supporting KaBOOM in Connecticut, she will be observing the workings of the program in hopes to partner up with KaBOOM again. “I’m hopefully in the process of bringing KaBOOM here to do in Detroit, and hopefully in my hometown of McKeesport, PA,” said Cash. Swin believes it is important for kids to have an “outlet” and would love to bring this joy to the children of Detroit, possibly teaming up with Palace Sports & Entertainment and the Detroit Pistons.
KaBOOM! is a national nonprofit organization creating fun playgrounds to ensure their envision of a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America is achieved. Since 1995 KaBOOM! has brought together the business and community interests to put smiles on children’s faces with constructing over 850 new playgrounds and skateparks and renovating 1,300 others nationwide. KaBOOM! also offers a great variety of resources for communities wishing to plan a new play space on their own. Swin Cash and the WNBA athletes are joining the long list of professional athletes who have partnered up with KaBOOM! in the past.
KaBOOM plans to use the proceeds from VINO! for building a playground on one November day of 2006 in the name of UCONN women’s basketball alums in Bridgeport, Conn. And soon will hopefully plan a day in Detroit to build a playground with Cash’s help.
