Play Like the Pros in Traverse City

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. --- While Katie Smith joins USA Basketball in Beijing for the 2008 Summer Olympics, the rest of the Detroit Shock will be busy teaching future WNBA stars the skills they will need to play on the big stage.

The Shock will hold their first “Positions Camp” Monday August 11 in Traverse City at the Traverse City West High School from 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. Campers ages 6-18 will enjoy first-hand instructions from their favorite Shock players and coaches.

Hosted by Donease Smith from the Shock Year-Round Hoops Program along with Shock players and coaches, campers will learn position-based training and go through the same drills that have helped the Shock become two-time WNBA champions.

Along with sharpening their skills, campers will be treated to a variety of other activities including contests and motivational talks. Each camper will be treated to a free Shock t-shirt and get to take part in a meet-and-greet with players and coaches at the conclusion of the clinic. Participants will also receive two free tickets to see the Shock take on the Indiana Fever September 5 at The Palace, the Shock’s second home game after the Olympic break.

Cost of the camp is $75. For more information on the Shock Positions Camp or to register, call Carley Knox at (248) 377-8614 or e-mail at cknox@palacenet.com. Registration forms can be completed online by clicking here.
