Shock Players Lead Girls Positions Camp at The Palace

Play Like the Pros

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. --- While Katie Smith joins USA Basketball in Beijing for the 2008 Summer Olympics, the rest of the Detroit Shock will be busy teaching future WNBA stars the skills they will need to play on the big stage.

The Shock will hold their first ever Positions Camp at The Palace of Auburn Hills August 25-27 from 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m., where campers ages 6-18 will enjoy these days of personal instruction from their favorite Shock players.

Hosted by Aaron Smith and Donease Smith from the Pistons and Shock Year-Round Hoops program, along with the Shock players, campers will learn position-based training and go through the same drills that have helped the Shock become two-time WNBA champions. Shock Head Trainer Laura Ramus will be on hand to help campers with conditioning.

Along with sharpening their skills, campers will be treated to a variety of other activities including contests and motivational talks. Each camper will receive autographs, a free Shock t-shirt and a photo op with the players they work out with at the end of each day. Participants will also receive three free tickets to see the Shock take on the New York Liberty August 29 or the Indiana Fever September 5 at The Palace after the Olympic break.

Cost of the camp is $100, which includes all three days. For more information on the Shock Positions Camp or to register, call Carley Knox at (248) 377-8614 or cknox@palacenet.com. Registration forms can be completed online by clicking here.
