No blog yesterday. Was hoping to have celebratory scrapbook to share, but t’was not to be. So here’s the final installment, for the most part chronicling the one of the best things about going on vacation, er, working on the road: eating out.

Every time the Shock team bus pulled into the loading dock at U.S. Airways Arena this week, I’d see this snazzy looking sports bar called “Cooperstown” across the street. I thought the name was a reference to baseball, since Chase Park, home of MLB’s Diamondbacks, was just down the road. As you can see, this was not the case. I finally got over there during practice Wednesday, and I don’t think I’ve seen an establishment blend the décor between sports and music quite so well. Like the sign says, it’s the place “where jocks and rock meet.” Alice, as you can imagine, has the hook-ups to get a lot of neat stuff. The best part? Even the servers had to wear Alice’s signature eye makeup. Too funny.

Every cab driver, member of the Phoenix service industry, or recent vacationer will tell you to visit nearby Scottsdale and/or Tempe, which are, essentially, the Birmingham and Royal Oak of Phoenix. For my one night out in Scottsdale, some of the Shock media members and I dined at Frasher’s Steakhouse. (I’d take a picture of the inside but it was pretty dark, and I got the feeling I shouldn’t disrupt the mood.) It’s owned by a couple of guys from St. Louis, so we felt right at home with in its Midwestern feel. Lots of Cardinals’ baseball memorabilia on the walls and the Cardinals’ game on the TV. The steaks received favorable reviews, but the stand-out dish was the deep-fried potato skins stacked about two inches high with toppings.
