Johnson

Shannon Johnson and Umana Venezia are a perfect 10-0 in Italian league play following Sunday’s 75-71 win over Lavezzini Parma (6-4). Johnson scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the victory, while Connecticut Sun forward Megan Mahoney scored 22 for Lavezzini Parma.

Johnson is now averaging 16.0 points and 5.1 rebounds on the year as Umana Venezia leads the league in scoring average (76.8) and is fourth in opponent scoring average (61.9). Carispe La Spezia (5-5), featuring Sacramento Monarchs guard Chelsea Newton, is next up for Johnson and company on December 22. Newton is averaging 16.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in Italian league competition this year.

Russian League

Nolan

Deanna Nolan and UMMC Ekaterinburg fell for the first time in Russian League competition dropping a 74-65 decision to CSKA (Moscow) (7-0) on Sunday. Nolan was held to four points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss. UMMC Ekaterinburg (7-1) lost the game on the perimeter as they misfired on nine of 10 three pointers while CSKA connected on six of 18 from long-range.

Nolan’s next Russian League game is scheduled for January 6, 2008 against Spartak (Moscow Region) (8-0).
