WNBA Finals MVP Smith completes another championship sweep

Overseas Update - May 8, 2009

The last Shock player to compete overseas will return to Michigan victorious.

Katie Smith scored eight points on a 3-pointer, a two-point basket and three free throws in 26 minutes as Fenerbache completed its three-game sweep of Mersin Thursday to win the Turkish League (TBBL) championship.

Indiana Fever center Tammy Sutton-Brown had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Fenerbahce in a 68-54 road victory in Game 3. Fenerbahce was a heavy favorite against Mersin after a league-best 17-3 record, and the defending TBBL champions dominated the series from the outset.

Smith scored a team-high 17 points in an 87-61 Game 1 victory May 3, and scored 17 again in a 102-62 Game 2 win May 5. She averaged 11.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in eight playoff games.
