Overseas Update - January 29, 2009

Since we last checked in with our Detroit Shock players overseas, Detroit Shock guard Katie Smith inked a deal with Fenerbahce Istanbul. In her first action overseas on Tuesday, Smith exploded with 28 points in her debut and the Turkish team celebrated a 107-78 overtime success against Lotos.

Taj McWilliams Franklin signed with Famila Wuber Schio in Italy last week and has yet to see game action overseas since the New Year. She will be joining former Detroit Shock rookie forward Tasha Humphrey who the Shock traded in exchange for McWilliams-Franklin this past summer.

Plenette Pierson signed with CCC Polkowice in Poland last week. Her first action on the court was on January 24th when her team took on Piersonís Detroit Shock teammate Ashley Shields team PKM Duda Super Pol Leszno. Pierson put up 10 points, four rebounds two steals and one assist. Shields led her Polish squad with 22 points, four rebounds, and one assist in their 87-78 defeat.

Deanna Nolan has played in three games with her Russian Squad UMMC Ekaterinburg, two in the Russian Superleague and one in Euroleague competition. In Russian league play, Nolan is averaging 10.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.1 steals in 25.9 minutes per game.
