May 17 Season Tip-Off Features KT Tunstall Halftime Concert, Family Day Promotion and All-You-Can-Eat Tickets
Shock Host Houston Comets in Home Opener 3:30 PM This Saturday at The Palace

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. --- On Saturday, May 17, the Detroit Shock will open their 11th season in the WNBA with a 3:30 p.m. matinee game against the Houston Comets. WNBA Tip-Off 2008 is presented by McDonald’s.

In conjunction with the Opening Day theme, Grammy-nominated recording artist KT Tunstall (www.kttunstall.com) will perform songs at halftime. Tunstall, whose first CD featured the break-out single Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. She also recorded Suddenly I See, which was featured in the movie “The Devil Wears Prada.”

New for the 2008 season will be an All-You-Can-Eat section in the lower level that is being offered for the first four home games of the regular season. For $25 per seat, fans that purchase tickets in this section get all the hot dogs, popcorn, nachos and soda they can eat and drink. There is a limit of 200 tickets that will be sold each night.

Also this season, the Shock will feature Family Nights for every Sunday home game. Opening Day, although on a Saturday, will also be a Family Night. The $59 Family Night package includes four lower level tickets, a $20 Palace gift card and a family photo on the Shock court. Sunday home games will also feature a post-game on-court shot for kids 14 and under and many other family-friendly activities.

Tickets in various price ranges will be available at all outlets. Lower level tickets are available for as low as $10 and courtside VIP tickets start at $65.

In June, the Seattle Storm, with former Shock all-star Swin Cash come to The Palace on the 4th. During the month of July, the Shock play six home games including a contest with Lisa Leslie and the Los Angeles Sparks on the 22nd.

The month of August will feature a break in WNBA action for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. Detroit’s Katie Smith will represent the Shock and the United States in the Games. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for August 8th.

The WNBA returns to action in late August. In September, the Shock host a re-match of the 2007 WNBA Finals with Phoenix on the 9th and wrap-up the regular season with Washington on the 11th. Download the entire Shock schedule at www.detroitshock.com.
