Ruth Riley Checks In
The Holiday Season
Hello Shock fans,
The holiday season is upon us once again. Another year for me to be thankful for everything I have been blessed with in my life. I know there are so many people out there who are not as fortunate as I or others in the Detroit Shock organization.
That is why Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday, because it forces you to recognize what you have in your life and emphasizes giving back to others. Sometimes we all get too wrapped up in our busy schedules to stop and realize what we have. I encourage you all do go out and do a little something extra for someone else this holiday season who might not have as much as you. One thing that one of my fellow pro basketball players, Richard "Rip" Hamilton of the Detroit Pistons does, is he visits a soup kitchen every year and helps serve food to the less fortunate in the city of Detroit. This year, Barbara Farris of the Detroit Shock will join me in helping Rip serve an early Thanksgiving meal to some people who otherwise might not get one.
Shock fans, I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving this year. Realize and soak in what you have in your lives, and do your best to make others feel good about themselves. Last year I had my whole family down to Miami and cooked Thanksgiving dinner for them. This year, I'm looking forward to going home to Indiana and celebrating at my brother's house. Below are some of my favorite things about Thanksgiving!

Below are some of my favorite things about Thanksgiving!
- Getting together with my whole family.
- Eating a lot of food.
- The weather is still nice enough to go outside in the yard and play a little game of football.
- Helping my mom cook.
- Playing my lil' bro in one-on-one to work off that endless thanksgiving meal :-) Turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie are my favorites!!
