Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has signed free-agent forward/center Barbara Farris to a contract. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Farris was drafted 22nd overall by the Detroit Shock in the 2001 WNBA Draft and spent the first six years of her WNBA career in Detroit. She was a member of the Shock’s 2003 WNBA Championship team and still ranks on the franchise’s all-time list in games played (371- 3rd), rebounds (462 - 9th and minutes (2,641 - 9th).

In two seasons with the New York Liberty (2006 and 2007) she averaged a career-best 7.7 points and 5.2 rebounds during the 2006 WNBA campaign. She played last season with the Phoenix Mercury and was traded to the Sacramento Monarchs this past offseason. She was waived by the Monarchs on May 25. In 34 games (eight starts) with the Mercury, she averaged 3.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

In 267 career games, the nine-year WNBA veteran has averages of 4.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 16.4 minutes per game. She’s played in 16 playoff games averaging 3.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 14.7 minutes per game.

The Shock also waived their 37th overall pick of this year’s draft, Tanae Davis-Cain earlier this week. In one preseason outing with the Shock Davis-Cain recorded 14 points, two rebounds and four steals in 21 minutes.
