Farris Shares a Holiday Memory
Sometimes people can overlook the fact that it is nice to be with friends and family for the holidays. With several Shock players traveling all over the world during the 2004-05 WNBA off-season and off-season’s past, there are many interesting holiday stories involving how WNBA players have spent Christmas in the past. Detroit Shock forward Barbara Farris shares with detroitshock.com her most recent favorite holiday memory.
“My favorite Christmas memory was when my mom and sister came to visit me in France for Christmas 2002.” says Farris. “I was playing for Club Cavigil over in France, it was hard for me to leave [practice] so my mom and sister came to celebrate the holidays with me.”
On Christmas Day Farris took her mom and sister over to one of her teammates house for a party, “it was a lot of fun since they [teammates] were practicing their English on my mom and sister, they [teammates] love to practice their English on Americans.” “We all had a great time, it was nice having them in France for the Holiday’s.”
Farris’s mom Juanita and sister Ebony spent a total of about 3 1/2 weeks with Farris in France.
From September 2001 to May 2002 Farris lived in Nice France (pronounced Neece), which is located in southeast France 30 Km (18 miles) away from Italy on the French Riviera, between Cannes and Monaco. “Europe is really fun and beautiful. For New Years I took them [mom and sister] shopping. We went to Monte Carlo the French Rivera and San Tropez. It was pretty funny we all got into my Ford Ka [a small compact car that is not made in the states.] My mom was so scared because everyone drives so fast there.”
