Coach's Corner 3-24-14
It was a busy week here in Tulsa.
Last Sunday, I went to my first Tulsa 66ers basketball game. Though the 66ers lost to the Bakersfield Jam, it was an exciting game. I was able to run into and visit two WNBA officials, who worked the game. They were happy to see me and happy I will be coaching in Tulsa this coming season.
Monday was St. Patrick’s Day and I went with the Shock staff down to the annual McNellie’s Block Party. We handed out basketballs, buttons and t-shirts to many of the patrons taking advantage of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. I carried around a basketball and had several business owners sign it for display in my Shock office. I had a chance to meet owners of the restaurants The Rusty Crane, Joe Momma’s and McNellie’s. I was able to meet and visit with Blake Ewing, owner of Joe Momma’s. He was excited and looking forward the upcoming season.
During the afternoon, I joined Chris Plank and the guys from The Buzz radio to talk about the upcoming season, players and the draft. To finish the day, I had a chance to head to The Rusty Crane with our President Steve Swetoha and other staff members to watch the women’s bracket selection. It was great to meet some of our Shock season ticket holders, Bob and Kathy Jewel, along with Greg Fisher.
I spent the rest of the week reviewing the restricted and unrestricted free agents and evaluated who may be a great fit here in Tulsa.
Finally, I would like give a shootout to the legendary restaurant Billy’s On the Square in Tulsa. I love going there and talking to Billy and his wife. It’s a great atmosphere with amazing food!
That's all for now!
