Detroit Places Cash on Injured List, Jackson Waived

Auburn Hills, MI – May 19, 2005 – Detroit Shock Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Laimbeer finalized the team’s 2005 regular season roster today announcing that the team has placed All-Star forward Swin Cash on the Injured List, waived Dionnah Jackson and placed rookie free agent acquisition Irina Osipova on the WNBA’s Suspended List.

Cash tore her left ACL with two games remaining in the 2004 WNBA season, missing all of the Shock’s playoff games that year. Players placed on the Injured List must miss at least three games before being activated, meaning Cash could come off the Injured List in time for Detroit’s June 3 home game vs. the New York Liberty.

The Shock selected Jackson in the first round (No. 13 overall) in the 2005 WNBA Draft. The 5-9 guard from the University of Oklahoma played in all three of Detroit’s preseason games, averaging 0.7 points and 1.0 rebound in 10.7 minutes of action.

Detroit signed Osipova to a rookie free agent contract on February 9, but the 23-year-old Russian will not be able to play for the Shock this year due to pregnancy.

Detroit finished the preseason 2-1 – the first winning preseason in franchise history – after a 68-62 victory Sunday, May 15 vs. the New York Liberty at Albany, New York’s Pepsi Arena.

The Detroit Shock open the 2005 WNBA Season vs. the 2004 Eastern Conference Champion Connecticut Sun on Saturday, May 21 at 1 p.m. at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Shock baseball cap. Season tickets are available by calling 248.377.0100 or by logging on to www.detroitshock.com.
