Shock Assistant Coach Laurie Byrd Resigns

Detroit Shock Assistant Coach Laurie Byrd, a fixture on the Shock sideline for the past three seasons, announced her resignation recently to pursue other employment opportunities. Former Pistons Bad Boy Rick Mahorn remains on staff as Head Coach Bill Laimbeer’s lead assistant.

“Laurie gave us three great years with the Shock, helping us to a WNBA Championship in 2003 and we’re going to miss having her on our staff,” said Laimbeer. “We’re currently interviewing candidates for the position, and are looking for an experienced coach who understands the kind of preparation in takes to succeed in the WNBA and who can help us evaluate talent at both the WNBA and collegiate level. We hope to have our coaching staff completed in the coming weeks.”
