On Cheryl Ford:
“She had a nagging injury this week and didn’t practice and came out tonight and gave us 20 [points] and 17 [rebounds] and three blocked shots. That was a great performance. We had a lot of good performances tonight, Deanna Nolan came back from a severe thigh bruise and played well in the minutes she did in the second half so it was a good win for us. They’re a pretty good team.”
On defense:
“That’s our strength, we’re the biggest, strongest team in the league, so when we don’t get offensive rebounds we’re going to struggle.”
On returning to the game after the first-half injury :
“Checked it out, massaged it, see how I feel and try not to stiffen up. Once I get warm, don’t take me out because if it stiffens up that’s it.”
On returning after the All-Star break:
“We knew our task at hand. We just have to stay focused and we came out and handled business like we’re supposed to.”
On rebounding:
“[Coach Laimbeer] told us he needs rebounds right now, get a stop and rebound. We know giving teams second chance shots will let them stay in the game”
On their slow start to both halves:
“I don't know. I think my pre-game and half time speeches have to be a little better. I'll take ownership of that. To be honest, Detroit is a good team. I think they've been underappreciated defensively in this league. They take away some things near the basket awfully well. It took us a little bit of time to adjust to that. Quite honestly, take a look at their shooting percentage. They shoot 39% and do a great job near the goal. I don't think we were as aggressive at times. I think they are a good defensive team and you don't hear that a lot.”
On playing in Detroit:
“Yeah. It's a tough place to play. I always like coming back home. I had my family and friends come out to see me play. That encourages me. I had to get 20 tickets”
On her game:
“Before the All-Star game, I wasn't playing as well. I knew I could play better. During the All-Star break I really focused in on what I could do to make me a better basketball player. I spent the time off resting here in Michigan. I thought about this season and last season and what I could do to play better. I really want to get my stats up a little more.”
