POSTGAME QUOTES
Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

On the game:
“It would have been a real bad loss. We saw it in shoot around today. We were ready to play yesterday no question about it we talked about that. When we came to the gym for shoot around we saw an attitude that we did not like. The coaches talked about it and I warned the players at the end of shoot around that I did not like what I saw. It was a lackadaisical focus.”

On the final play of the game:
“That was a designed play. When you have shooters on the weak side, its difficult, as long as [Deanna Nolan] gets the ball there, its a very difficult play to stop. She's done that before on the same play, against the same team in the playoffs two years ago."

On the upcoming road trip:
"I still have great confidence in our team, even with Cheryl [Ford] going down it puts a big dent in us, but we have very talented players."

Shock Guard Deanna Nolan

On emotions:
"[They were all over the place] because of time when we got the ball and Katie [Smith] was pushed out of bounds and there was no call, so emotions were high."

Shock Forward Swin Cash

On the game:
“You have to know how to win games like this, a team coming in the obviously hadn't won a game. Its games like this that build character in our team and its good that we had a situation like that at the end and we were able to be patient, execute, and get Deanna [Nolan] the shot and she made it."

On recovering from her injury:
"Its the best I've produced, I actually felt pretty good against Connecticut. I had a conversation with Bill [Laimbeer] and we talked about me being efficient, and watching film and seeing when I was getting my shots, and just getting comfortable getting bumped around and being physical and finishing shots."

New York Liberty Coach Pat Coyle

On the game:
“This was the first game where we really competed. It’s a start for us. We’ve got to come out every night. This is the best team in the league and they’re supposed to win it all and we should have won this game. We understand the effort that we have to have every night to compete in this league. That’s what we took from this game.”

On if this loss could be taken as a moral victory:
“No. We should have won this game. Is it a moral victory? No. It’s not a moral victory. We should have won this game.”

On the bench player’s play:
“It’s their job. Their job is to come off the bench and produce and that’s what they did.”

On the final play of the game:
“Nolan kills us every year. She made an unbelievable play. We got hung up and she made an unbelievable play. That’s why she’s one of the best guards in the league. In my opinion she is the best guard in the league.”

New York Liberty Forward Sherill Baker

On the Liberty’s play:
“We played great. We executed well except for the last play.”

On her play:
“I’m still learning. I’m still adjusting. I think I’m doing pretty well. My teammates are keeping me up. I’m just trying to come in and contribute as much as possible to help me stay in (the game).”

On playing against Detroit:
“I didn’t want to be tentative or hesitant. I just wanted to attack and be aggressive. I felt like I helped my team out. Got them open shots and I think I did pretty good.”
