    Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

“I thought a lot of people contributed well but I think the game tempo was set by Cheryl Ford with her defense That is the best and most active defense I have seen out of her all year.”

“It was all the ladies. We had a bad shoot around today and I warned them at the end that they had to find their intensity because I didn’t see it at shoot around today and they showed up with it.”

“They are starting to buy into themselves a little bit. We have done a lot of talking to them this year and we are finally really healthy. Barb (Farris) is a big contributor for us right now, she is finally in shape health wise.”

“Every game is important. But, tonight’s game was really important. New York was in front of us and they have us 2-1 and 2-0 before tonight’s game. It is a game that we wanted to win very badly. We have one game left (before the break), if we play like this we will be just fine.”

“It’s a team thing. They have to mold as a team, as a group and as individuals coming together for the good of the whole and I think we are almost there.”

    Shock Forward Swin Cash

“I could tell from the beginning of this game, we were so focused. Bill prepared us really well for this game and we knew how much was on the line. Fortunately everyone just showed up and into it. It wasn’t about individuals it was about the team. So we were just going to do anything possible to win the game.”

“Once you know what is in front of you all you can do is go out there and try your best. That is exactly what we did.”

“Sunday is very big for us. I think we need to win on Sunday to put us over the top and give us the momentum we need going into this break.”

    Shock Guard Merlakia Jones

“Today I just felt really good and I was hitting my shots and my teammates just continued to give me the ball and I just kept taking them when I was open.”

“Bill has been harping on us all along as the bench to come along and relieve the starters. I think the last two games we have just really come in and been aggressive and played good defense and just played wherever was needed.”

Liberty Interim Head Coach Pat Coyle

“I thought they came out more aggressive then we did. I think they are real physical and when you play like that your chances are pretty good. When we came out I thought we were ready to play, but I thought they came out with a lot more intensity then we did. I thought that was the difference in the game.”

On what they did to get back into the game after the first half:
“We became aggressive. I think we were tired of them beating the crap out of us and I think we started to give it back. That’s why we got back in the game.”

    Liberty Guard Becky Hammon

“I thought we didn’t play very well, especially on the defensive end. I don’t think we could have played much worse in the first half. There is nothing we can do about it now, but we play them one more time.”

“Our bench did a good job. They came in and really got us back into it. We were able to cut it to five or six points there a couple times then I thought the game got a little out of hand. But you know that’s what happens with two physical teams. So then I thought it got away.”

About the effect of the six-day break:
“I think you’re more finely tuned when you’ve been playing in games obviously more than practice. But that’s no excuse because we didn’t play well. I thought we didn’t really match their intensity until the last part of that game. They came out and they were the aggressors. That’s when it is hard to play catch-up on other people’s court.”
