Detroit Shock vs. Indiana Fever
Postgame Quotes - June 16, 2007
June 16, 2007

Detroit: Bill Laimbeer | Swin Cash
Indiana: Brian Winters | Tamika Catchings | Tammy Sutton-Brown

Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer
(On the game): "It was kind of a carry over from yesterday's game. We just didn't have the concentration, more importantly, we didn't have the desire to come out and win the basketball game. That was a little disturbing. We just didn't have the mindset that we were going to win the game."

(On not having Cheryl Ford): "You can't make excuses because this is professional sports and everybody has injuries. Our front line got a little bit into foul trouble so we had to play a little bit of small ball, but we didn't even look to shoot the shots we normally do take and that's what we have to work on. The mental part of the game of being ready when our time's there."

Shock Forward Swin Cash
(On the game): "[Indiana] made plays, they made plays down the stretch, we did not make the plays that we needed to make, we didn't match their intensity level either. It’s disappointing but it’s a learning experience. It’s something that you can definitely grow from. We have to give them credit."

(On the upcoming road trip): "We've been known in the past to do well on the road, so I'm hoping that that still stands. We're going out West. There are some tough teams out there. There's not an easy game. There are not going to be any nights off. We're just going to take the approach of one game at a time."

(On being tired): "Maybe, but we're a veteran team, we have to learn how to fight through fatigue and anything like that. I just thought our mental approach wasn't tough enough, physically, we had the body to put out there."

Fever Head Coach Brian Winters
(On turnovers): “You know both teams were on the second night of a back-to-back and we caught a break in the sense that Cheryl Ford couldn't’t play. We had planned to mix our defenses which we did and we got an early lead which is good. We played from the lead most of the game and when we can do that, that’s good for us.”

(On the Fever’s play) “Tamika played very, very well. She got to the free throw line and she rebounded the ball for us. She was all over the place. That was good to see. We got some good production from K.B. Sharp off our bench and she made some big three’s for us in the second half. Tammy Sutton-Brown was very solid. Whitmore rebounded well. We got good performances from everybody.”

Fever Forward Tamika Catchings
(On the difference between their play tonight and last night) “We came out here tonight tired, but focused. Focused on obviously defense and transition defense. We talked about it after the game yesterday, our transition defense against Phoenix was terrible so the good thing was we had another game the next night and we were able to redeem ourselves.”

(On the game not being close) “It’s always a surprise when you’re looking at the Detroit Shock. They always come out and it’s always a tough match-up for us. They’re just a great team. They have so many weapons and it’s always a struggle for us to compete with them.”

(On Cheryl Ford’s injury) “Cheryl’s a great player, getting on the boards. Offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, she’s definitely a presence for them down low. I think having her out of the starting lineup really affected them as a team. I think she just got hurt last night so this is their first game without her and they’re going to have to find somebody to step up and fill her shoes.”

Fever Center Tammy Sutton-Brown
(On the game) “Detroit’s a tough team. I guess we found out right before the game that Cheryl Ford had gotten hurt in the last game. She’s a big part of their team but they’re still strong without her so we knew that we had to come out and jump right on them from the beginning. The first five minutes that’s what we tried to do.”

(On coming out focused in the second half) “The same way you come out on the beginning of the game. We know that any given night any team can beat any team. We know Detroit’s such a strong team, they won it last year, so they’re not going to give it to us. We knew they were going to come out in the second half so we just had to stay focused as a group. That’s pretty much what we’ve been trying to do all year; play team basketball.”
