POSTGAME QUOTES
Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

On defense:
“Our defense was solid, no question about that. We were struggling offensively, but our defense was always there. We don't want to talk about defense, we want to talk about offense and let our defense do its own talking. We did a have good defensive effort tonight.”

On working hard:
“We've made a commitment to defense this year because we believe it can win a championship. We put a lot of hard work into the four days leading up to this weekend, make no mistake about that. We went back to square one and worked very hard defensively and offensively, trying to work the kinks out and its paid off the last couple games.”

On Deanna Nolan:
“When Nolan plays at that level like she did, she's the best player in the world, can't stop her and she sees the court so well, she made great passes. She was on her way to a triple-double. Give us five more minutes, she would have had a triple-double and that's what we need from her on a consistent basis.”

Shock Forward Cheryl Ford

On playing top teams:
“Everybody loves a challenge, of course, I love it. I love to compete and I know they're a great team and I know their big players are going to be down there and that's what I like to do.”

On rebounding:
“That's what I do, that's what I'm here for is to rebound. Everybody plays their role and I'm doing what I'm supposed to do.”

Shock Guard Deanna Nolan

On her game:
“I'm not shooting to miss. Sometimes they're off, sometimes they rim out, sometimes they go in, and tonight they were falling.”

On playing at the point guard position:
“I can help out a little bit, get Katie some time at the two [guard], which is her normal position, swap it out a little bit. I'm getting more comfortable at that spot.”

Comets Head Coach Van Chancellor

On the game:
“I thought we played pretty good except for the first half. We just couldn’t start. I don’t know if it was a combination great defense by Detroit or three games in four days and a back-to-back. I don’t know.”

On being worried about this game:
“I just thought that we just played three real physical games and usually when your legs go out from under you it effects your shooting first. And they (Detroit Shock) did a really good job. They played really well. Give them credit.”

On match-up problems with Katie Smith and Deanna Nolan:
“I thought we did a really good job with Katie. Deanna was just outstanding.”

On losing the second ever game to the Shock in 300 career franchise games:
“We’ve played some great basketball here. They just played better then us today. They just did a better job than us.”

Comets Forward Tina Thompson

On the game:
“I think we just started out a little slow. We couldn’t buy any baskets. I for one was probably the leader in that category. It happens. We were coming off a back-to-back and I don’t want to use that as an excuse. Detroit’s a tough team so when you come in here you definitely need to be on top of your game. We weren’t. We started really slow even though we made a push sometimes it just wasn’t enough.”

On being tired from playing three games in four nights:
“Yeah. I think it’s a combination of things. We won in New York but it wasn’t an easy game. We had a tough one last night even though we pulled it out. We definitely needed to be on top of our game coming into tonight’s game. And we weren’t. We didn’t make shots. They made plays. Defensively we weren’t bad but offensively we were awful.”
