  • Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

    On losing the lead:
“We probably stayed in the zone too long, They were hitting some shots, they picked apart our zone a little bit and got some confidence going for themselves. So we [the coaches] have to take some blame for that one, probably should have gone back to a man-to-man, but we turned the ball over like crazy, gave them second shots right then and those were the keys to the ball game. We can’t give teams like that that kind of second opportunity or were going to lose and that’s what we’re doing right now.”

    On coaching:
“Right now I’m doing a fairly poor job of coaching this ball club because I can’t get them to find the desire to win and that’s what we need to do is to find that energy and that heart. We don’t have the will to win and that’s what we have to find.”

    On Swin Cash:
“I thought she did okay, I think a little rust showed there. Movement-wise she was fine, but there was a little bit of rust. Normally, she would convert some shots that she didn’t convert, but it’s a good first step.”

    Shock Forward Swin Cash

    On her game:
“I thought I did well, I wasn’t looking to do anything special, just get out there and get a feel for it, just find my way back, I thought I did a great job of that. I think all around, I get a C+.”

On the injury affecting her play:
“Probably early on, but then once I started playing, I just was out there playing. I could tell a little bit on my left, as far as rebounding I wasn’t getting up the same height or have the same explosiveness, that’s going to come, but other than that I thought I felt pretty good.”

    Shock Center Kara Braxton

On recording a career high in points and rebounds:
“That doesn’t even matter to me if we don’t win. I just do whatever I can for the team.”

    On losing the lead:
“I said the same thing, what happened? When you’re out there, you’re all in the moment so you really can’t see. I don’t know, I’m lost for words right now, because we’re doing pretty good, we played so hard.”

    Comets Head Coach Van Chancellor

    On the game:
“I thought that was a great, great win for the Houston Comets. To have jumped out early and then they came roaring back and then we got disarrayed and they came back on us and got ahead. And to win, yeah that is big for us.”

    On the starters:
“I was as unhappy as you could be with first half bench, I told them that and we came back.”

    Comets Forward-Center Tari Phillips

    On the second half production:
“We needed to come out and play better in the second half then we did in the first half. We let a lot of players come alive and score points and rebound collectively as a team. He gave us a good chewing out during half time. We needed to come out and get motivated and play the second half.”
