  • Cash's Season Statistics
    Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

“Swin Cash early in the week said ‘I’m not going to tell the media but I will give you a Rasheed Wallace guarantee that we are going to win the next game’. She did, she played great. I couldn’t leave her in to get the triple-double that is just bad basketball. We don’t do that here. What a great game she had. But all our team played well. If you look at our stat lines, everybody played spectacular basketball tonight. They were very hungry for it. But, it drove up our defense. We talked about it all yesterday and today about defense. Our offense is fine now, we are focusing on defense.” “You could see yesterday in practice. Ruth and Cheryl went one-on-one at the post realizing that they are a big part of our ball club. They have to get to the free throw line and they have to attack the basket, they have to be more physical and they came out tonight and did it.” “Each individual know, they have been given direction and they know where they have to go. The peer pressure in the locker room is increasing, which is good. I think we are going to be O.K.”

    Shock Forward Swin Cash

On fulfilling the guarantee to win:
“It feels good. I felt early on and I was really trying so hard. I missed a lot of easy shots today, but sometimes that’s just the way it goes. I just stayed after it and my teammates said they were going to back me up and they went out there and did it. It was a whole team effort it wasn’t just me by myself and I was just really happy I was able to guarantee it. Now he wants me to guarantee the rest of the season and I can’t do that right now. We will just take it game by game.”

    Shock Guard Deanna Nolan

    On Swin’s guarantee:
“She guaranteed Bill that we would win tonight. Besides her saying that we were on a four game losing streak and we didn’t want to make it five. So, we just had to come out and play hard.”

    Comets Head Coach Van Chancellor

“They did a great job, give them credit. They came in here and they needed a win and they ran the ball. The rebounded against us better then anybody has in a long time.”

    On Tina Thompson’s injury:
“I don’t want to get in to that. We don’t use that as an excuse. We won’t use that as an excuse. The Detroit Shock played us, played us tough. They hammered us more than any team has ever hammered us on the boards.”

    Comets Forward Tiffani Johnson

“You never feel good when you lose. That’s the bottom line. We lost the game and it doesn’t feel good.”

On whether the Shock front line was the best she’s come across all year:
“Um…one of the best. I don’t know if I would necessarily say it was the best front line, but definitely one of the best. Their versatility; they have great players in their front line with Ruth and Cheryl. They have a bench. I mean I don’t know why they’re great, or good, but they are.”

On not being able to get the game close:
“Yeah, pretty much. We couldn’t get it going. We would get it down to maybe nine or eight, but then something would happen. We would give up an offensive board or we would turn the ball over. I don’t know, we just couldn’t get the momentum going our way.”
