Einstein’s winning shot captured 5 foot 10 guard Deanna Nolan showing off her incredible vertical leap to block a shot taken by 6-4 Cathrine Kraayeveld of the New York Liberty.
From November of 2007 until Sunday, January 6, 2008, WNBA.com hosted its fourth annual Photo of the Year contest, featuring 16 of the most talented photographers in the league. Fans were able to vote on 10 images per photographer with four photographers featured each week for four weeks. Each photographers’ photo that received the most votes went on to meet in a bracket-style contest.
Einstein has been the Detroit Pistons team photographer for the past 27 years and has doubled as the Shock photographer since the team’s inception in 1998.
This is Einstein’s first honor as WNBA Photo of the Year winner.
This was Nolan’s second honor as the subject of the Photo of the Year. Photographer Nathaniel Butler captured one of Nolan’s two slam-dunk attempts in the WNBA All-Star game for the photo of the year honor in 2005.
