| POSTGAME QUOTES |
|
|
Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer
" I thought they rebounded well we didn't do a good job of keeping
them off the offensive glass. They wanted this game more than us. That is the
bottom line."
"They play well. They are big and they are strong. They make shots. In
the third quarter they made shots, and we didn't. For two quarters our
offense went in the tank for shot making. That was the difference in the ball
game."
"Our offense got our heads down, we got frustrated with our offense and
that translated into standing around too much on both ends of the court."
"We need to make sure we play for the entire forty minutes. We had some
players who lost concentration out there in the second half. That can't
happen. We have one game to secure the home court advantage in the first round,
so we have to take care of business."
|
Shock Guard Deanna Nolan
"They were making a run, coming back and making a lot of threes. We weren't
hitting shots. They came out and played a lot harder than we did. They just
wanted it more. They out-rebounded us, and that just made the difference."
"We just have to play harder. Do the little things, get the loose balls,
fight for rebounds, and be more focused on making shots towards the end of the
game."
|
Shock Guard Katie Smith
"They picked up the intensity and started hitting some shots. They figured
out the zone, and got some offensive rebounds. They just attacked us a little
bit more. We had a couple turnovers and then we didn't hit shots. At the
point the momentum swung. They just picked it up a notch and we didn't
match that."
"We just have to play hard and play smart for forty minutes. We have
some moments where as a team we are not all in tune. They just picked it up
and every single one of us has to match that. If there are one or two of us
who aren't, then that's when they are going to take advantage."
|
Head Coach Richie Adubato
"The key to the game was rebounding and we did that tonight, 41-33. The
other key to the game was getting back on defense and not letting them get the
easy shots, which we did a really good job at. We got a terrific effort from
(Nakia) Sanford on the boards. She got 12, DeLisha (Milton-Jones) got eight,
Alana Beard got eight and Miller got four from the guard position. It was a
great team effort on the glass. DeLisha made a lot of big shots. In one stretch,
she made three three pointers in a row."
"We had good balance scoring. We had four players in double figures,
which means we're moving the ball. All in all Detroit had to win so they
had a lot of motivation. We wanted to win because we wanted the most franchise
wins which we did at 18 tonight. Hopefully we can to go to New York and get
a win there and get prepared for Connecticut."
"Connecticut presents a lot of problems for us because they have been
to the finals twice, they have five all-stars on their team and they have been
together for five to six years. We had a victory at home so we know it's
possible."
|
Storm Guard/Forward Alana Beard
"Our intensity level is increasing, our heart, our determination is there.
The past few games that we played are sort of like the playoff atmosphere that
it's going to be like, and this team is stepping up to the challenge.
We've stepped up to the challenge in the past few games."
"They say that you have to experience things to know how to deal with
them, and in Sacramento I think we experienced a championship caliber game.
We took it into two overtimes, we never gave up. The only bad thing is that
we came up on the short end of the stick, but this time we kept fighting. We
go the good end of the stick, so it feels really good."
"It's a franchise record, this team has been in existence for like
eight years, so to be a part of this record feels good."
|
Storm Guard Coco Miller
"It's a big win. This game reminds me a lot of the Sacramento game
when we were down by a lot and we fought back. We fought hard, we stuck together
and we knew they were going to make some runs, and we made a run of our own.
We just played hard and that's what we're all about."
"Connecticut is a very tough team because they have weapons from the
outside and inside and they played together for a few years now so they know
each other very well. We're just going to have to go in there and bring
our intensity, our work ethic, and just give it all we have because we really
don't have anything to lose against them. We played them good when they
came here, so hopefully we can do that again."
|
Storm Guard Nikki Teasley
"It was a big win for us. It gives us a lot of momentum going into playoffs.
We're having a lot of fun right now. At home we're doing a great
job, but on the road is where we're really going to be tested and we're
going to have to go out with the same intensity that we played at home."
"Defensively, we have to not have too many lapses like we did today,
try not to get down by seventeen points every game and fight back."
