Detroit Shock Announce 2004 Television Schedule

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Shock announced today that their 2004 television schedule will feature six locally televised games in addition to seven games to be seen nationally (ABC, ESPN2 or Oxygen). Fox Sports Net will carry five home games and Comcast will televise the September 1 match-up with 2004 number one overall WNBA draft pick Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury at 7:30 p.m. ET at The Palace. WXDX AM 1310 The X will carry all 34 regular season games.

Detroit will be seen twice on ABC (May 29 vs. Los Angeles at 4 p.m. ET at The Palace and June 19 at Sacramento at 4 p.m. ET) before Fox Sports Net broadcasts the June 27 match-up with last season’s second round playoff foe Connecticut at 6 p.m. ET at The Palace. The Shock can be seen on national television three more times in July (July 10 vs. Seattle at 4 p.m. ET at The Palace on ABC, July 15 at Houston at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and July 18 vs. San Antonio at 12 p.m. ET at The Palace on Oxygen). ESPN2 will carry two contests in September (September 9 at Los Angeles at 10:30 p.m. ET and September 19 vs. Charlotte at 2 p.m. ET at The Palace).

Matt Shepard - the voice of the Shock on WXDX AM 1310 The X - and JoAnne P. McCallie will return for the call on all six locally televised games this season and Matt Dery will move over to fill in for Shepard for the radio broadcasts.

Shepard enters his seventh season of broadcasting duties with the Shock. A familiar voice around the Detroit area for more than 11 years, Shepard will handle the radio and television duties for the team. Shepard is a versatile radio and television veteran, who has won two Michigan Association of Broadcasters "Best Radio Sportscast" awards. He also serves as a sports anchor and talk show host for WDFN AM 1130 in Detroit and earlier this year was selected to call football for NFL Europe.

Joining Shepard on all Fox Sports Net telecasts for her second season broadcasting the Shock is Michigan State University Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie. After four years at MSU, McCallie is on track to turn MSU into an elite women’s program after guiding the 2003-04 Spartans to a 22-9 overall record and its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

Dery enters his seventh season of broadcasting fill-in duties with the WNBA Detroit Shock and Palace Sports & Entertainment. Aside from his broadcasting responsibilities with the Shock, Dery is also the radio voice of the University of Detroit Mercy Titans men’s basketball team on WDFN AM 1130 and WXDX AM 1310 and is the pre-game, halftime and post-game host on the NBA Detroit Pistons Radio Network.
