Auburn Hills – The Shock pulled to within a game of .500 with its third win in five days and second over the expansion Washington Mystics. Washington jumped out to an early seven points lead, 13-6, but the Shock went on a 20-5 run to take a 26-18 lead with 8:40 to go in the first. Detroit led by that same eight-point margin at the break, but the Mystics sliced into it early and often in the second half tying the game at 58 with just under nine minutes remaining.

The Shock never relinquished the lead, however, and pulled out the 79-71 win. Sandy Brondello led Detroit with 19 points and Korie Hlede added 17. Nikki McCray scored 23 points for the Mystics
