Detroit Shock 76, Phoenix Mercury 78

Auburn Hills – Phoenix Mercury center Jenifer Gillom nailed a three-pointer with two tenths of a second left as the Shock wasted a 12-point halftime-lead along with a season-high 18-point performance from Carla Porter off the bench in the process. The loss dropped Detroit’s record back to.500 at 6-6. A 12-0 Shock run midway through the first half turned a six-point deficit into a six-point lead for Detroit, and they eventually pushed that advantage into double-figures taking a 12-point lead into the locker room.

A 24-7 Mercury run turned the tables coming out of the break and gave Phoenix a five-point lead. Neither team led by more than three points over the final 9:28, and a Sandy Brondello jumper with 5.7 seconds remaining gave Deteroit a one-point advantage setting up Gillom’s heroics. Gillom posted a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds nailing three three-pointers on the day as well.
