Detroit Shock 65, Phoenix Mercury 68
June 28, 2003 at Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI

Auburn Hills– The Phoenix Mercury stopped the Detroit Shock’s historical team high win streak at 8 games. On the strength of Adrian Williams’ double-double (20 pts., 11 rebs), which set a career high in scoring, and Tamicha Jackson’s career high in assists (9 assists) the Mercury were able to pull off the startling upset bringing their season record to (3-11). Kayte Christensen added 11 points to their cause.

Detroit was led in scoring by Deanna Nolan with 14 points, with Swin Cash and Elaine Powell putting up 12 and 11, respectively. Detroit had a chance to take the lead with 50.4 seconds left in the game, but forward Swin Cash missed two free throws and Phoenix clung to a 66-65 lead. Kedra Holland-Corn also had a three-point attempt fall short in the final seconds as the league’s worst record (2-11) beat the league’s best record (8-1).
