Auburn Hills – Cindy Brown’s 22 points and 10 rebounds helped the Shock blow open a tight game late in the second half against the New York Liberty as Detroit won its sixth game in a row following four consecutive season-opening losses. An Albena Branzova lay-up tied the score at 62-62 with just 2:13 remaining, but Detroit scored 20 of the next 23 points for the 17-point win. Twelve of those 20 points came from the free throw line including nine from Korie Hlede who finished with 18 points.
Razija Mujanovic added a double-double of her own on the night, and Detroit’s defense limited the Liberty to just 36.2 percent shooting.
