The Shock (4-0) remained the WNBA's lone unbeaten team and improved to 2-0 this season against the Liberty. Last year, New York ended Detroit's reign as WNBA champions with a first-round playoff series victory. Nolan made 9-of-19 shots and 13-of-16 free throws to break the club scoring record set by Sandy Brondello in 1999. She added seven rebounds.
A 3-pointer by Crystal Robinson, who scored 13 points, gave New York (1-3) a 46-33 lead with 9:10 left in regulation. The Liberty still held a 52-43 advantage with just over three minutes to go before the Shock rattled off eight straight points.
Nolan's 3-pointer made it 52-51 with 31 seconds remaining. Elena Baranova ended New York's drought with two free throws, but Chandi Jones tied it with a 3-pointer, her only basket of the game. In overtime, Nolan had a basket, two free throws and a 3-pointer to give Detroit a 63-56 lead with 1:07 to play. She added five foul shots as the Shock held on.
Elaine Powell scored 10 points and Cheryl Ford grabbed 10 rebounds for the Shock. Becky Hammon and Shameka Christon scored 11 points apiece for the Liberty. Both teams shot under 34 percent.
