Washington, D.C. – The Washington Mystics picked up their second win of the 1998 season holding the Shock to 29.9 percent shooting from the field on the night. Detroit found itself down double digits with less than eight minutes gone in the first half and saw that deficit balloon to 20 late in the period.

The Mystics never let up as they pushed the lead to 30 with 6:40 to go in the game coasting to the 25-point win. Nikki McCray scored a game-high 21 points and Alessandra Santos de Oliveira added a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double for Washington. Sandy Brondello was the only Shock player able to break double-figures with just 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field. It was the fourth loss in a row for Detroit following a six-game winning streak.
