Washington, D.C.-- All-Star Cheryl Ford helped send the struggling Detroit Shock into the All-Star break with a surprising victory over the surging Washington Mystics. Ford scored 15 points and matched a season high with 18 rebounds as the Shock pulled away in the second half for a 76-62 victory. Detroit (7-7) had lost six of their previous seven games, while Washington (8-8) had won five of their last six. Ford scored five points during a 10-0 run late in the game, capping it with a free throw, for a 67-53 lead with just over three minutes to play. Ford shot 6-of-11 from the floor, added four assists and six offensive rebounds. Elaine Powell had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Shock, who outrebounded the Mystics, 44-24.
Chasity Melvin paced four players in double figures with 14 points, added four blocks and seven rebounds for Washington, which tied a franchise record with 10 blocks. All-Star Alana Beard added 12 points
