Detroit Shock 73, Phoenix Mercury 60

Phoenix – The Shock were trying to claw their way back to the .500 mark, but the Phoenix Mercury held them to 36.8 percent shooting from the field and forced Detroit into 20 turnovers on the night for a 73-60 victory. Korie Hlede paced the Shock with 16 points and Rachael Sporn notched a career-high 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Mercury led by as many as 10 points during the first half, but the Shock finished the stanza on a 23-15 run capped off by an 18-foot jumper by Korie Hlede to trail by four at the break. Phoenix extended the lead back to double figures again early in the second half, and the Shock never threatened the rest of the way. Jennifer Gillom paced the Mercury with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, while Cindy Brown just missed a double-double for Detroit with 11 points and nine rebounds.
