The New York Liberty got some measure of revenge for last year’s season-ending loss to the Shock which cost them a second straight trip to the postseason. Trailing by four at the half and by eight with less than a minute gone in the second period, the Liberty went on a 31-8 run to tale a 15-point lead with nine minutes remaining on the clock. Detroit put together a 13-2 run of its own late in the half to close the gap to four, but New York scored the final three points of the game for the final seven point margin of victory.
New York’s Tamika Whitmore (16 points) led four Liberty players with double-figure scoring totals. New York’s bench outscored Detroit’s 29-13. Sandy Brondello led the Shock with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field
