New York - Close but no cigar as Detroit fell to 0-4 on the season with a one-point loss to the New York Liberty. The Shock jumped out to an early lead for the second straight game taking a 19-7 advantage with 6:08 to go in the first period. After watching the Liberty whittle their lead down to seven at the break, Detroit again opened up a double-digit cushion, 45-30, with 12:58 to go, but the Liberty scored 14 of the next 16 points to cut the Shock lead to three. The teams traded baskets down the stretch with Detroit holding a 59-58 lead with 1:17 left on the clock. Johnson led all scorers with 21 points while Swin Cash led Detroit with 15.
