Minnesota– The 1999 WNBA Season began slowly for the Detroit Shock as they could muster only 16 points, a franchise low, in the first half and trailed at the break by 19. Early in the second half, the Lynx extended the lead to as many as 25 and they cruised to the 68-51 win. Detroit’s starting front court combined to score just two points on the night on 1-for-16 shooting.
Tonya Edwards scored a game-high 20 points for Minnesota, who outscored the Shock in the paint by a 36-18 margin. Jennifer Azzi was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field off the bench for the Shock including 2-of-2 from three-point range for 14 points. Minnesota was without guard Katie Smith who was recovering from ACL surgery.
