Houston – The Detroit Shock had visions of an upset dancing in their heads as they were tied at 17 with 9:17 remaining in the first half of their game with the defending champion Houston Comets. Three minutes and 11 second later, the Comets had rattled off 14 straight points and were well on their way to sending Detroit to its largest margin of defeat in its brief history.
Houston led by as many as 34 in the second period connecting on 50.7 percent of their field goal attempts while holding Detroit to just 38.6 percent shooting on the night. Kim Perrot led the Comets with 22 points while Cindy Brown recorded a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double for Detroit.
