Houston – Detroit never led in their 21-point loss to Houston, falling to 0-3 on the season. Houston led by as many as 16 points in the first half and by 10 points at halftime behind 14 points from Janeth Arcain. The Shock closed the gap to six on two occasions in the second half, including 55-49 with 11:15 to go in the game, but an 18-4 Houston run put the game out of reach.
Arcain’s 27 points and Tina Thompson’s 15-point, 12-rebound double-double led the way for Houston as the Comets made 50.8 percent of their field goal attempts on the night. Elena Tornikidou led four Shock players in double-figure scoring with 15 points.
